Strategically mobilize BMN to improve the political and economic power of Black men and their communities to achieve proper representation, equitable access to opportunity, and genuine social justice.
Why it matters: Based on key historical events, the Black community is well positioned as the load bearing society on civil rights and the forward-facing image of social advancement. Black men act as the frontline defense system against white supremacy. BMN operates in an environment defined by significant, well-documented disparities that necessitate a coordinated, data-driven response.
Factual Basis of Disparity: In the DMV, Black households face the largest negative disparities in income, unemployment, and poverty, with the Black median household income being less than 33% of that of their White counterparts in some areas. Nationally, Black men are underrepresented in professional and leadership roles. This is not happenstance; it is the result of systemic inequities that our legal system has a duty to address.
